School Safety Topics

On College Campuses

School safety isn't just a grade school concern. Students on Maryland's college campuses face many of the same issues their younger counterparts do, plus several that are unique to their age group and station in life. Whether you are a student, parent, educator or any other constituent, we invite you to explore these topics to get a better understanding of these hazards, as well as what kind of plans are in place and resources are available to address them.

By federal law, colleges and universities are required to establish standard protocols for many campus safety concerns. Parents and students can look at an institution's annual security report, which should be available on the school's website, to find statistics on crime, disciplinary actions and campus safety policies. But these are not a government and schools-only issues. They are community issues, and all Marylanders with a stake in our youth and their education would benefit by understanding these topics.
